Bennie Joe Poteet, age 84, passed away on Saturday July 18, 2020 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and was of the Christian faith.
Ben served his country in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne and was a 1956 graduate of Etowah High School. He was retired from CSX Railroad. Ben loved his dogs, gardening and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Susie Poteet; daughter Charity Poteet; brother, S.L. Poteet; sisters, Ruby Joan Owen, Kathaleen Mull, Betty Arnold, Velma Watts, Claudia Malone, Pearline Huffman, and Basaline Corrento.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Ashe Poteet; four children, Felechia Hall of Etowah, Benji Poteet of Spring City; Matthew Poteet (Chris) of Knoxville; and Victor Poteet (Julie) of Athens; six grandchildren, Jacob Hall, Blake Hall, Cheyenne Poteet, Bree Poteet, Annabelle Poteet and Vivienne Poteet; two great grandchildren, Kage Hall, and Adilynn Hall; one sister, Jean White of Athens; and several extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life and Home going will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home of Etowah.
The Burial is private.
A Gathering of family and friends will be conducted from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday.
