Bernice Gibson Smith

Bernice Smith, age 70, of Etowah went home on Thursday, March 12, 2020.  Awaiting her were her son, Dale Smith, and her husband, Doyle Smith.

She was the daughter of the late Troy Lee Gibson and the late Wilma “Marie” Bearfield Lewis.

She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.  She was well known among her family and friends for making the best beans and cornbread around.  She loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart and always made sure everyone was taken care of.

She was preceded in death by her son Dale Smith, husband Doyle Smith, parents Troy Gibson and Wilma “Marie” Lewis, brother Freddie Lee Gibson, Sr., sister Nona Mae Blair Hall, brothers-in-law Dennis Blair, Albert Smith, Glenn Burger, and Curtis Hall, sister-in-law Rose Norwood, and her life-long best friend Karen Smith.

Survivors include her sons Daril Smith, David Smith and Karlisa Morgan, and daughter Nona McKenzie and husband Jamie, all of Etowah.  Grandchildren Ashlee Smith Gardner, Amber Ogden and husband TJ, Cody Smith and fiancé Lacey Tincher, Brackton Smith and wife Lauren, Derek McKenzie, Brodie McKenzie, Gracelyn Smith, Caitlyn Smith, and Christan Smith.  Great-grandchildren Steven and Alea Clark, Byntlee Gardner, Brodie Smith and Gauge Ogden.  Sisters-in-law Mary Gibson and Louise Burger.

 A Celebration of Life and Home going  for Bernice Gibson Smith will be held at 2p.m. Sunday,   March 15, 2020 at Mountain View Baptist Church with Brother Pete Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in Reliance Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Cody Smith, Derek McKenzie, Brodie McKenzie, Hayden Gibson, Charlie Armstrong, Jason Smith, and Frankie Cook.  Honorary pall bears are Dennis Gibson, Freddie Lee “Punkin” Gibson, Jr., and Mike Amos.

 The family will receive friends from 4-7p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
