Dorothy Walker Smathers

Dorothy Walker Smathers, age 90, of Etowah, departed from this life on Monday, January 14, 2019 at a local healthcare facility.  Born on October 14, 1928 to the late William M. and Ethel Cummings Walker, she was a native of McMinn County and spent a majority of her life in Florida and Georgia and was of the Baptist faith.

 Mrs. Smathers was a graduate of Knoxville Business College. During her working years she was employed as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Tennessee and Travelers Insurance Company.  She loved traveling, having gone to Europe on several occasions as well as other special places around the world. She also loved spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Brannan Smathers; a sister, Doris Denham; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Elda Walker; and a great nephew, Todd Denham.

Survivors include her nephew, Bill and wife Helen Denham of Etowah and great-niece, Tisha Hilton and husband Kyle of Knoxville.

A Private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
