Evelyn Jewell Knight, 87, of Maryville, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024.
"Judy," as she was known, was born on November 24, 1936 to Sam and Latitia Pirtle in Nashville. She married airman Kenneth L. Knight, Sr. in 1953. After several years of being stationed away from home in Georgia and Texas, the now family of four, settled in Maryville in 1958 after Ken was stationed at McGhee Tyson, where he was a pilot with the Tennessee Air National Guard's 134th Air Refueling Wing.
Among the things she'll be fondly remembered for, her Christmas goodies will be high on the list, specifically her "green cookies" and peanut butter cookies. Judy was a wonderful cook, as well as, a great seamstress. She could sew everything from pageant uniforms and dresses to patching holes in britches. She crocheted beautiful afghans and blankets too. Judy also enjoyed tending to her many flowers and plants, and despite the toll these things took on her hands, her granddaughters all admired their mamaw's perfectly manicured hands and nails.
Judy was preceded in death by both parents; sisters, Helen and Marilyn (Frank); brothers, Sonny (Hazel), Joe (Peggy) and Phillip; brother-in-law, Richard; grandson, David, Jr.
She is survived by her brother, Aaron (Judy); sister, Brenda; five children, Linda, Bud (Chris), Ronnie, Karen and David (Janet); seven grandchildren, Michael (Dena), Jason, Kevin, Amber (Bond), Crystal (Steven), Goob and Kellie (Roman); seven great-grandchildren, Chynna (Ben), Sydney, Nola, Eden, Ty, Sawyer and Dawsyn; as well as, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
No services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital or St. Jude, two organizations Judy felt strongly about.
