Gary Carpenter, age 65, of Etowah, went home to his heavenly father on Wednesday morning, August 21, 2019 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he retired from Collins and Aikman (formerly Textron) after 29 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. Gary served his country as a member of the United States Army and the 101st Airborne and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Red Carpenter; and his brothers, Ricky Carpenter and Larry Carpenter.
Survivors include his son, Poo Carpenter and wife Deidra of Etowah; daughter, Crystal Freeman and husband Shawn of Etowah; grandchildren, Shelby Carpenter, Aiden Freeman, Makenzie Freeman,Jacob Carpenter, and Hannah Carpenter,great-grandchildren, Cadence Buckner and Coleman Buckner; mother, Helen Carpenter Etowah; brother, Terry Carpenter of Athens; sister Lisa Moses and husband Tooger of Madisonville; a close friend Lamar Smith of Etowah; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Gary Carpenter will be held at 3p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Shane White officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-3p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
