Irene Wesley Gibson

Irene Wesley Mitchell Gibson, age 98, was born Wednesday, December 27, 1922 and passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021 in Purcellville, VA. Irene attended Notchey Creek Baptist Church and later became a member of Fortners Chapel Methodist Church. She loved sewing and making quilts and clothing for family and friends. She cared deeply about people, serving as a caregiver in Sweetwater the latter part of her life.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Edward “Red” Gibson; parents, Joe Wesley and Smith Irene Foulks Gass Mitchell; brother, Ben Greeley Mitchell; 2 step-brothers, William “Wilson” Gass and Leonard Woodrow “L.W.” Gass; daughter-in-law, Lula Belle Gibson; grandson, Keith Bryan Gibson.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Maxine (Herb) Rundgren of Purcellville, VA; sons, Kenneth Ben and Robert Ross Gibson of Sweetwater, TN; grandchildren, Denise Ann (Stuart) Odom, Herbert Edwin (Julie) Rundgren III, Kenneth Ben Gibson, Jr., Nathaniel Ivan (Tiffany) Gibson; great-grandchildren, Johnathan Ben Gibson, SPC Joseph Alan (Kelly) Odom, Rebekah Ann Odom, Keith Bryan Gibson, Bethany Faith Gibson, Nathaniel Ivan Gibson, Jr., Nickolas Isaac Gibson; sister-in-law, Alene Mitchell; nieces, Peggy (Bill) Pendleton and Joann Sifford; nephew, Edward (Becky) Mitchell and several great-nieces and nephews.

Tuesday, June 29^th at 11:00 a.m. family and friends will meet at McClellan Cemetery in Madisonville, TN for graveside services and interment. Reverend Brenda Gentry officiating. Family has requested in lieu of flowers please make donations to Capital Hospice Care, St. Jude Hospital or a favorite charity.
