James G. “Buster” Martin, passed on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was a member of the East Athens Baptist Church. Buster was an avid Lady Vols Basketball fan and enjoyed watching his granddaughter, Brooklyn, play softball. He took great pleasure in camping with his wife, Charlyn, and granddaughter, Brooklyn, to Myrtle Beach and Pigeon Forge. Brooklyn was the light of his life. Buster retired from Bowater Paper Company after 42 years of service.
Buster was preceded in death by his wife, Charlyn Martin; father, Jim Martin; mother, Lucille Martin; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
He is survived by his son, Chris (Misty) Martin and granddaughter, Brooklyn Martin; son, Nicky Martin all of Etowah; brother, Danny Martin of Riceville, sister, Jimmie Sue (Sherman) Williams of Athens; sister, Vickie Croft of Smyrna; mother-in-law, Violet (Dave) Duncan of Etowah; sister-in-law, Audrey Butler of Valley, AL; one very special great-nephew, Chance Goins; several nieces, nephews and work friends from Bowater.
Family will welcome friends for a visitation on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Serenity Funeral Home in Etowah. A funeral service will be on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Associate Pastor Mike Dannell officiating. Pallbearers include: Tommy Trotter, Eddy Trotter, Joey Newman, Justin Slack, Todd Loveday and Casey Riden. Honorary Pallbearers: Rick Bishop, Kenny Benton, Steve Landers, Gene Smith, Seth Hawn and Ryan Slack. Interment to immediately follow service at Good Spring Cemetery.
