James Brendan Durkin

James Brendan Durkin, M.D., passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN, at age 77.

James grew up in Oreland, PA. In 1963, he graduated Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, PA. Following High School, he graduated from St. Joseph University in 1967 and joined the U.S. Navy from 1967 – 1970. Later, James attended Hahnemann University Hospital College of Medicine and graduated to become a Medical Doctor. He started his own practice and recently retired from Etowah Family Practice in Etowah, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Durkin and Margaret McClellan of Pennsylvania; brother, Martin Joseph Durkin, M.D. of Pennsylvania.

Survivors include his sister, Eileen Schaefer of Amber, PA; and 2 special friends, Donna Martin and Elizabeth Smith, both of Athens, TN. James will be missed dearly by his many patients and friends.

As James requested, Serenity of Etowah will provide cremation with no services.
