James Richard Peck, 83, years old born January 12, 1941 to William F.
Peck and Lola Mae Flanagan passed away January 7, 2025. A native son of
Tennessee, he descended from Benjamin Franklin through Jacob Franklin
Peck (Alexander Doran chapter of U.S.D. 1812) and grandson of Thomas F.
Peck, Republican nominee for Governor, and twice Secretary of
Agriculture for the great state of Tennessee - “Father of Etowah.”

He is survived by his wife Margaret (Henaghan) Peck of Liverpool,
England, daughter Christine Peck-Thompson of Houston, TX, son James
Vincent Peck of Summerland Key Florida and daughter Rebecca Lynn (Peck)
Reynolds of Etowah, Tennessee. Grandchildren include Christopher James
Thompson of Los Angeles, California, Nicholas Franklin Athanos of
Austin, Texas, Alexandra Rebecca Thompson of Austin, Texas, Lydia
Margaret Thompson of Houston, Texas, Lauren Yvonne Peck of Houston,
Texas, James Kyle Peck of Houston, Texas, Benjamin Durelle Reynolds of
Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Laurel Reynolds of Oak Ridge Tennessee, and Great
Grandchildren Astrid Evelyn Woods of Houston, Texas, Tripp Rowan Woods
of Houston Texas, and Bjorn Nicholas Athanos of Austin, Texas: also survived by cousin, Cameron Shearer of San Francisco, CA 

Pre-deceased siblings include Thomas Peck, William Peck, Evelyn Peck. 
Surviving siblings include Josephine Brown, Marjorie Brackett, Carolyn
Glass and Nancy Snider all of Etowah, Tennessee.

Richard Peck, also known as “Dicky,” served in the U.S.A.F. for 22 years starting in the fire department and advancing to search and rescue then Strategical and Tactical Air Commanded in Vietnam where he is recorded as saving a number of lives behind enemy lines. He received numerous commendation medals from overseas service as well as International Rifle Champion awards.

After retiring from the Air Force, he embarked on his entrepreneurial
efforts following his passion for aircraft and ships. He received his
Captain’s license from the Merchant Marines and owned various ships and
sea-going tug boats. He also owned a trucking company, and was a car
and gun and history enthusiast, and collected and loved vintage autos.

He had a zest for life, a large sense of humor, and loved his family
more than anything. He was an adventurer, which led him to many
countries and life experiences and had friends all over the world.

The very last message he passed to his family the day before he passed,
was John 15:12 “Love One Another.” 

A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025 in the Chapel of Poole Funeral Home, Etowah at 1:00 PM.
