Jeffery Dan Hooper, age 55 of Niota, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at his home. Born on June 2, 1963, he was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. A1981 graduate of McMinn Central High School he played football for 4 years and spent 2 years on the track team throwing discus and shot put. He started playing football in 1971 for the Etowah Pile Drivers and was the school bus captain in the 8th grade.
In 1981 he joined the National guard in McMinn County and was part of the 1st/278th ACR- Calvary Scout 19 Delta. He joined the United States Army in 1985 and was stationed in Hanau, Germany FliegerHorst Kasene. Served as a member of the 68 Mike aircraft weapons crew/ door gunner, 3rd ArmourDivision,308th attack helicopter battalion in 1986, He trained with Special Forces while stationed in Graph, Germany. He operated trucks, tanks, Army Personnel Carriers, Cranes, and was a missile e re-loader. From 1988-1991, was stationed at Anderson Barracks Derheim, Germany was part of the 16 Tango Patriot Missile crew member and re-loader. 4th battalion/7thAir Defense /32nd Adcom. From 1990- 1991 he was part of Desert Shield/Desert Storm stationed in Imarlick, Turkey Joint Task Force. What he enjoyed most about the military was the camaraderie with is military family and friends. His special military friends were Jewell Williams, John Barton Black, Donnie Braughton, Artie Salem, and Rodger Montano.
Jeffery was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Hood Hooper.
He is survived by his loving wife, Chris Kennedy Hooper of Niota, children, Katie Widener and husband Casey of Sweetwater and Jacob Hooper of Sweetwater; step-children, Dillan Tilley and wife Clarrissa of TenMile and Amanda Tilley of Athens; grandchildren Marlee Underwood, Colt Widener, Atticus Tilley and Weston Tilley; father, Tommy Hooper of Etowah; sisters, Tonya Presswood and husband Freddy of Manchester and Candy Hooper of Etowah. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Jeffery Hooper will be held at 7p.m. Monday, December 17,2018 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Alan Watson officiating.
A Graveside service will be at 11a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Etowah City Cemetery with Dillan Tilley, Tommy DeBord, Casey Wideman, Austin Kennedy, Andy Kennedy, Roger Montano, Jordan Hockman, and Colin Hockman serving as pallbearers. Military Honors will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m on Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
