John “Steve” Stephen Clemons, age 73 of Niota, went to his everlasting home Thursday, February 24, 2022 passing at the Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center. He was born in Chattanooga, TN and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. He was a retired engineer from Chattanooga Paper Board. Before his health declined, he loved being in the woods hunting or on the water fishing. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Stephen Clemons and Emma Jean Walker Clemons; brother, Holbert William Clemons. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Peggy Tinsley Clemons of Niota; son, Stephen Kelly Clemons; daughter, Tara Hurt Wattenbarger of Athens; grandchildren, Brandon Wattenbarger and Tyler (Haley) Wattenbarger of Athens; great grandchildren, Remi, Raelynn, Larkin and Trinity all of Athens; sister, Karen (Dan) Burney of Georgia; brother, David (Sheila) Clemons of Signal Mountain and several nephews; special friends, Bud (Sue) Harris and Joe Lenoir all of Niota. Friends and family are welcome to attend a graveside service being held Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full Military Honors.
