Johnny Witt “Papaw Johnny”, age 86, of Etowah passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
He was the owner and promoter of Witt’s Wrecker Service and Used Cars in Etowah. He was the former Fire Chief of Etowah for many years during the 70’s. Johnny was a member of the Masonic Lodge 653 and the Alhambra Shriners in Chattanooga and loved promoting the Great South Championship Wrestling locally and regionally. He was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard and a founding member of the Etowah Rescue Squad.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Marie Witt; wife of 48 years, Joyce E. Cross Witt; daughter, Jeri A. Witt; grandson, James A. Gay and great granddaughter, Cassidy A. Witt.
He is survived by children, John A. “Pete” (Teresa) Witt; Jana M. (Wayne) Gay, Jeanette A. (Doug) Lowe; grandchildren, Jason A. (Amanda) Witt, Nikisha M. (Travis) Green, Kagan E. Witt, Aaron Haggart, Justin W. (Amber) Gay, Matthew (Brittany) Mellott, Kacy (Kalesha Williams) Guffey, Stephen G. Witt, Wendy (Jason) Giles, Christopher Alferdo; great grandchildren, Asher, Keelan, Cam, Braylon, Brantley, Kolton, Aniela, Nathan, Blayne, Vaida, Lauren, Reese, Carson, Jadien, Zayden, Ocian, Daniela, Tia, Keylon, Connor, Kayden, Alexus; great great grandchild, Bradi and his faithful companion, Outlaw.
Family will welcome friends for visitation Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. with graveside service to immediately follow at 1:30 p.m. in Green Hill Cemetery. Rev. Scott Duckworth will officiate.
