JOSEPH H. DECKER

Joseph Henry Decker Sr., of Benton,TN, went home to the Lord on January 18, 2023, at 93 years old. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth and a great grandson Nathaniel.  He is survived by their three children, Joseph H. Decker, Jr. (Nelline) of Springtown, TN, Michael R. Decker (Tara) of Benton, TN and Suzette P. Williams (Kent) of Etowah, TN.; grandchildren, Joseph III, Aaron, Ryan, Jessie, Rebecca, Amanda; and five great grandchildren.

Joseph was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on March 26, 1929, to Lewis and Annabelle Decker, the third of their six children and was their last surviving child.

Joseph was full of life and never met a stranger. He was known for his sense of humor, his kindness, hard work, love for his family, camping, and his love for westerns and all things sweet, especially chocolate.  After retiring, Joseph and Elizabeth traveled the US in the motor home for several years before settling in Benton, TN after falling in love with all the beauties of the area and desiring to live closer to their children and grandchildren.

He spent the last two years of his life at Morning Pointe in Athens, where he was loved by the staff. The family wants to express heartfelt thanks to all those that cared for him during that time.

The family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate his life before laying Joseph to rest alongside his wife In Wappinger Falls, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital , a cause that was dear to his heart.
