Larry Slocum, age 71, of Athens, departed this life on Tuesday morning, May 14, 2019 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens. Born on November 6, 1947 in Flint, Michigan to the late Stephen and Vivian Slocum, he had lived the last 4 ½ years in McMinn County and was a member of Nonaburg House of Prayer. Larry worked for several companies in Indiana from 1968-2003 and retired with 23 U.S. Patents. He was a passionate musician, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret ”Maggie” Meadows Slocum; daughter, Julie Taylor of Indianapolis, Indiana and Laura(Dewayne)Lee of Athens; grandchildren, Stephanie Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Jacob Plunkett, Kara Plunkett, Katie Kesley, Sammy Williams, and Roger Lee; brother, Ted(Sue)Slocum of Flushing, Michigan; 5 great-grandchildren, and several extended family.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Laurence “Larry” Stephen Slocum will be held at 7p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Dewayne Lee officiating.
Family and friends will meet at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Cedar Grove Cemetery for the committal service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m on Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
