Lula Sue McDermott Prater, affectionately known as “Lue Sue” and “Aunt Toot”, age 95, was called to her heavenly home Friday, January 6, 2023 at Life Care of Athens. She was born on June 12, 1927 to Bertha Cooper Moss and Hugh Moss. She married George A. McDermott and they had 3 children in this Union, Valerie, Al and Connie. She worked different jobs until she found her home working as a Nanny doing private duty for Dr. H.B & Renuka Soni. She cared for their children Pipasu and Parag. She called them “her boys”. She worked for the Soni’s even after her retirement. She was a woman of virtue, spunk, with a witty sense of humor. She loved to laugh and make others laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 22 years, Ben Prater; daughter, Valerie Morris; an infant child; sisters, Rosa Mae Bradford, Lois McCroskey and Evelyn Parris.
Lula leaves to mourn, her devoted children, Connie McDermott (Sedrick Scarver), Alvin McDermott; son-in-law, Wayne L. Morris; 2 sisters, Lorene Walker and Willie Jean McCloskey; 10 grandchildren, Landius (Melody) Wilkerson, Maury (Morgan) Ragland, Alvin (Heather) McDermott, Darius (Grace) McDermott, Ayanna (Terrell) Washington, Kim (Riggie) Johnson, Ashton (Quinn) Jarrett, Lanita (Rodney) Robinson, Faith Colburn, Candace Shelton; 20 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends; special friends and staff at Life Care of Athens.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. for visitation in the Chapel, Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Harris officiating. After the service, a repast will be held at Everlasting Life Christian Center on 411 Hwy in Etowah. Interment will be held in McMinn Memory Gardens on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
