Chief Paul “Black Wolf” “Poppy” Woods, Sr. age 76, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020.
“Poppy” a devoted family man, was a Valentine baby born, February 14th, 1944. When he first met Chief Man Many Tree over a decade ago, “Black Wolf” began taking his family to the Pow Wows. Over the last several years “Black Wolf” has bestowed many Native American names on his grandchildren and other friends. To this day, his children and grandbabies still make Native American jewelry, weapons, hunting and fishing tackle.
Preceded in death by wife Jeanne Woods; father Paul Woods; mother Dorothy Wingate Woods; two sons Joshua Dishaw and Paul Woods; brother Louis Woods; sister Dosia Woods; grandsons Kennith Downs, Daniel Dishaw and Bud Woods.
Paul was survived by children Shelia Woods, Brenda Woods, Dorothy Woods of Jacksonville, FL, Theresa Woods of Baxley, GA, Robbie Woods, Paula Woods, Sandra Woods of Calahan, FL, Paul Woods of St. George, GA, Joey Woods of Lafayette, GA, Jeanne Woods, Keith Hamilton of Englewood, TN Jennifer Hall, Sean Dishaw of Etowah, TN and David Wingate of Athens, TN; grandchildren Carolyn Neblet, Kenneth Downs, Trace Downs, Devin Downs, Kenneth and Shelby Downs, Terry Compton, David Compton, Michael Compton, Jerry Barber, Adam Woods, Christina Woods, Christopher Woods, Amanda Woods, Joey DuPree, Scott DuPree, Larry DuPree, Serenity Woods, Madyson Woods, and Dixie Dishaw, Taylor Family, Makala Hall, Joey Woods, Tiffany Woods, Kirk Woods, Joshua Dishaw, Jessie Dishaw, Robert Hall, Kayla Hall, Janel Hall, Paul Beasley, Jesus Contreras, Julia Diaz Woods, Autumn Cloer, Brandy Meadows, Spring Meadows, Christopher and Austin Powell; great-granddaughter Macy Woods, several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Celebration of Chief “Black Wolf” will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 6:oo pm with the Reverend Joe Brooks officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Due to the national covid-19 pandemic, the wearing of masks and social distancing is required.
