Steve Thomas Hayes

Steve Thomas Hayes, age 72, passed on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. Steve was a wonderful and loving husband and father. He was also a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He was so kind and very thoughtful; he took great care in making sure his loved ones came first and they were always comfortable and happy. He was able to create many memorable moments for them.

Steve grew up in Cleveland, TN. He was a motorcycle mechanic and had his own mechanic shop (you just had to look for the big Paul Bunyun out front). He was the best welder and could fix anything. A real Mr. Fix-it man. He always said, “I’m a genius trapped in a human body”. He later moved to Florida, where he was a ballroom dancer. He owned his own dance studio where he inspired and taught people to dance. Steve was a strong and determined man who never gave up on anything and worked hard his whole life, putting his fullest effort into every project he took on. He was a remarkable man and will be missed by so many.  

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Betty Jean Hayes.

He is survived by his wife, Larraine Lucas Hayes of Etowah; son, Dustin Hayes of Alabama; daughter, Cortney Hayes of Maitland, FL; grandchildren, Mason and Sabrina Hayes; great-grandchild, Sarah Hayes; brothers, Barry (Cathy) Hayes and Alex Hayes both of Cleveland, several nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Serenity of Etowah Funeral Home, Tuesday, September 13, 2022 in the chapel from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
